Wiesbaden (region)

Wiesbaden was one of three administrative regions (along with Darmstadt and Kassel) from which the state of Hesse was formed in 1945.

The administrative district of Wiesbaden was founded on February 22, 1867, a year after the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. It was one of the two political subdivisions (along with Kassel) of the province of Hesse-Nassau (a Prussian province formed in 1868 from three former states of the German Confederation: the Duchy of Nassau, the Landgraviate of Hesse-Homburg, and the Free City of Frankfurt).

In 1968, the district was dissolved, and its territory was merged with the administrative district of Darmstadt.
